'Govt policy to ruin farmers'
Addressing a largely attended farmers' rally at Nachol Haat, she said diesel price was increased by Tk 8 per litre during the last three years making the irrigation costly. The farmers are supplied with adulterated fertiliser and pesticides.
Motia said the ruling party was plundering public money in the name of subsidy to agricultural inputs. The khas lands and water bodies in Barind region were given to the party men depriving the peasants.
Drawing a comparison she said during the Awami League rule price of diesel, kerosene and other agricultural inputs was not raised. They had pursued farmers' friendly policy that helped achieve bumper crops, she added.
Matia called upon the farmers to rally behind Awami League to bring about a change and save the nation from the misrule and oppressive government.
Organized by Sammilita Nagorik Samaj the rally was also addressed by Meher Ali, Fazle Hossain Badsha, Nazmul Haq Prodhan and Ziaur Rahman.
