Ambassador Sarjil Hassan passes away
He is survived by his wife, son, daughter, four grandchildren and a host of friends and relations, and admirers. He belonged to Dhaka's Nawab family.
Ambassador Hassan joined the Foreign Service in the erstwhile Pakistani in 1969 and served Bangladesh for 35 years with distinction and great professionalism. He served in various capacities in different diplomatic missions in Cairo, Baghdad, Stockholm, Kabul, Dubai, Jeddah and Los Angeles.
He was also ambassador to Taskent, Uzbekistan, Moscow, Russian Federation and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
His namaz-e-janaza will be held at Nawabbari mosque in Islampur after Zohr prayers today. He will be buried in Nawabbari family graveyard in Begum Bazar in the city.
Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan, Advisor Reaz Rahman and top officials of the Foreign Ministry rushed to Lab Aid hospital where he breathed his last at 5:30pm.
Morshed Khan expressed deep shock at the sudden death of Ambassador Sarjil.
In a message of condolence, he recalled his "great contribution to professionalism and to enhancing Bangladesh 's image and interests while serving as diplomat abroad".
He prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
