Bigots demand ban on Dewanbagi publications

A group of bigots yesterday demanded of the government to ban all publications of Dewanbagis, as these, what they said, contain anti-Islamic elements.

The group under the banner Iman-Akida Sangrokhhon Committee, Bangladesh made the call at a press conference in the city yesterday.

Leaders of the group said they will hold a mass rally at Muktangan on January 14 and move in a procession towards the Dewanbagi office.

M Jamal Naser Chowdhury, secretary general of the committee, said they will observe a protest week from January 10 to 14 against the Dewanbagis.

Jamal, a key leader of Amra Dhakabasi organisation which launched agitation against the Ahmadiyas, said they will stage a demonstration at the eastern gate of Baitul Mokarram Mosque on January 12 to protest the 'anti-Islamic' activities of Dewanbagis.

Jamal alleged "The pir (spiritual leader) of Dewanbagis made a number of speeches and statements that are insolent and have gone against the actual teachings of Islam."

Shamsul Haq, vice-president of the committee, said if the government does not meet their demand immediately, they will announce their further agitation programmes from the rally on January 14.
