'Impartial judiciary a must for good governance'

The government is leaving no stone unturned to make the judiciary time-befitting and dynamic for the welfare of the commonmen, he said.

He was laying the foundation stone of the expansion of the office building of Narayanganj district Bar Association and District Session Judge's building here this morning.

Presided over by Advocate Kazi Ahmed Ali, President Narayanganj District Bar Association, the function was also addressed by State Minister for War of Liberation Affairs Prof Rezaul Karim and Narayanganj Bar Association Secretary Advocate Abul Kalam Azad.

Moudud sanctioned Tk 10 lakh for the construction of buildings and Tk 1 lakh for the purchase of books for Bar library.

He assured the lawyers that each Bar Association and district judge's court would be equipped with computer technology to help acquaint them with latest legal proceedings of High Court and Supreme Court.

He said the government has taken reform measures to the existing laws adding the Speedy Trial case and amendment of civil procedure code 2003 have led to the disposal of 136 sensational criminal cases by District Judge's court in Dhaka during the last three years.

Artha Rin Adalat 2003 has been framed and a substantial amount of money lying outstanding have been realised from the defaulters.

Referring to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman murder case and Jail killing case of 1975, Moudud said the government disposed of the cases speedily. But the immediate past government could not frame charge even after 3 years and seven months he said.

He urged the lawyers to serve their clients honestly to uphold the image of judiciary.
