'Join Dec 30 no-confidence human wall'

The mainstream opposition will form the human wall from Sunamganj to Sundarban as part of its anti-government agitation.

Now the ruling alliance is engaged in foiling the opposition's agitation programme, he said referring to the Friday's bomb attack on Mahila AL's meeting in Sylhet.

He also blamed the ruling alliance for the bomb attacks on the rallies of Suranjit Sengupta and the mayor of Sylhet City Corporation.

Even, bomb attacks also took place at the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal, he said. "We want an end to such heinous crimes."

He called on all to make the December 30 programme a success.

AL Presidium Member Suranjit Sengupta blamed the government for widespread corruption, growing crimes, rise of fundamentalism and the price hike for essentials.

He alleged that the government has also undermined the judicial and democratic system.

Rashed Khan Menon, president of Workers' Party of Bangladesh, said the BNP-Jamaat alliance government could not bring anybody responsible for the bomb attacks in Sylhet to justice.

He demanded immediate trial of those involved in such attacks.

To save the nation from the grips of religious fanatics, there is no alternative but to topple the BNP-Jamaat alliance government, Menon said.

Hasanul Haque Inu, president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, said the government of Khaleda-Nizami has strengthened the hands of fundamentalists who are against the spirit of Liberation War.

The government has totally failed to run the administration and ruined the economy, he added.

"We want a neutral election commission and reforms of the caretaker government," Inu said.

Mayor Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran, who is also the city AL president, chaired the rally held in the Court Point area. Saifuddin Ahmed Manik, Pankaj Bhattacharya, Abdur Rahman, Obaidul Quader, Lutfur Rahman and Misbahuddin siraj also spoke.
