JS body happy over security measures for foreign guests

The parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism has expressed satisfaction over the security measures taken for different residential hotels where the foreign guests will be staying during the Saarc summit.

The 13th meeting of the committee was held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with Alhaj Kazi Golam Morshed in the chair, yesterday.

Committee members Gazi Mohammad Shahjahan, Masud Arun and Mohammad Sahiduzzaman were present.

The meeting discusses different aspects of activities of the duty free shops at Zia International Airport, construction of Hotel International Ltd (HIL) and beautification programmes on the occasion of the Saarc summit.

The meeting was told that three duty free shops at ZIA earned a profit of Tk five crore 70 lakh and 74 thousand during 2003-2004 fiscal year.

Besides, HIL contributed Tk 37 crore 42 lakh 50 thousand to the government exchequer under different heads apart from making a profit of Tk 17 crore 86 lakh 83 thousand during the same fiscal.
