Int'l confce on IT from Dec 26

The seventh International Conference on Computer and Information Technology, hosted by the Brac University, will begin in the city on December 26.

Education Minister M Osman Faruk will inaugurate the three-day conference at the Plenary Hall of the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Centre.

Brac University Vice-Chancellor Prof Jamilur Reza Chowdhury briefed about the conference at a Meet the Press programme yesterday.

Chairperson of the Conference Organising Committee Dr Mofiz Uddin Ahmed, Dr Kaikobad and Dr Sayeed Salam were also present.

About 500 IT personnel from home and abroad are expected to join the conference.

Dr Mofiz Uddin said the committee has received 679 research papers from 12 countries -- Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, China, India, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Thailand, the UK and the USA.

But only 126 papers have been accepted for presentation in the regular sessions and another 43 for display in the poster sessions.

Professor Dr Mongi Abidi from the University of Tennessee, USA, and Dr Manzur Murshed from Monash University, Australia, will present keynote papers at the conference.
