EC to give 10m Euro to Bangladesh
An agreement to this effect was signed yesterday between the government and the commission.
Economic Relations Division Secretary Mirza Tasadduq Beg and EC Head of Delegation to Bangladesh Esko Kentrschynskyj signed the agreement on behalf of their respective side.
Officials said the amount is a yearly budgetary allocation from the EC Food Security Programme.
The EC allocation will contribute to the National Food Policy and Capacity Strengthening Programme under the Ministry of Food and Disaster Management in collaboration with other line ministries and civil society, said a commission press release.
It also includes funds for a micro-finance scheme for the beneficiaries of the Food Security Vulnerable Group Development Programme under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
In addition, it will give support through innovative projects to the extreme poor who often have no access to the existing micro-finance schemes.
