Appeal of a son of martyred journalist

In a statement yesterday, Sumon said he has long been trying to persuade the DCC to name the road from Mouchak to Maghbazar after her mother. He also submitted an application to the DCC in this regard.

Finally on March 20 in 2003, the DCC issued an order asking the owners of shops and houses at the Outer Circular Road to replace the old signs with new ones reading 'Selina Parveen Road'. But the DCC officials did not take any step to implement the order, he said.

"Although the DCC erected four concrete road signs to make people know the new name of the road, it did not inscribe the name. Then I myself took initiative to inscribe 'Selina Parveen Road' on those structures. But one morning I found one of the road signs was knocked down," said Sumon.

Selina Parveen was the editor of a monthly literary magazine 'Shilalipi'. She was the only woman journalist killed by Pakistani occupation forces at the fag end of the liberation war.
