Military hardware display begins

Members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces will join the nation in observing the Victory Day in a befitting manner today.

The day's programme will begin with offering of special munajat after Fazr prayer at all mosques of Army, Navy and Air Forces across the country, seeking divine blessings for the peace and progress of the country and development of the nation.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Khaleda Zia yesterday inaugurated an eight-day grand display of military hardware at the national parade square arranged in observance of the day.

The display, jointly organised by the Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force, will remain open to all from 9.00am to 5.00pm till December 22 except December 18.

A 31-gun salute at the time of sun rise will herald the day at the old airport in Dhaka today.

National flags will be hoisted atop three services' headquarters and Armed Forces Installations. Important buildings of the armed forces will be illuminated in the evening.

Besides, a number of ships of Bangladesh Navy will be kept open to visitors from 2.00pm to 4.00pm in Dhaka (Sadarghat), Chittagong, Khulna, Mongla, Barisal and Narayanganj.
