Muktijuddher Bijoy Mela begins in Ctg today

The Mela Parishad has been organising the fair on the outer stadium premises every year since 1989 but it was forced to shift the venue as pro-ruling organisations have been organising a victory festival titled 'Muktijuddher Bijoy Utsab' at the same venue since 2001.

At a press conference yesterday, Mayor and Mela Parishad Chairman ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury said some misguided freedom fighters have occupied the outer stadium premises, the traditional venue of Bijoy Mela.

Mohiuddin, also the general secretary of Chittagong city Awami League, said the Parishad also appealed to the authority for permission to use the outer stadium premises as the fair venue, but in vain.

He alleged that the organisers of the victory festival were destroying the spirit of the liberation war in the name of festival.

Abul Hashem, secretary general of Mela Parishad, announced the programmes to be held at the fair venue.

A discussion will be held on the first day, with Major General (Retd.) KM Shafiullah, Bir Uttam, sector commander and S-force chief, as chief guest.
