Research work on women's development

Litterateur Selina Hossain and gender specialist and researcher Maleka Begum will conduct the research work.

Osman Morad, Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank in Bangladesh, handed over a cheque for Tk 3 lakh to Selina Hossain and Maleka Begum recently in this regard. Mohammad Badrul Ahsan, head of corporate Affairs of Standard Chartered Bank in Bangladesh, was present.

The research work will be published as a book titled "The World in the Eyes of Women," based on the activities of women in 12 key areas identified in the 4th World Women's Assembly in August, 1995 in Beijing.

These areas include education and training, economics, health, violence against women, armed clashes and women, poverty, women in decision making and politics, the human rights of women, environment and women, female child, women and media and role of women in institutional and state affairs.

The work will be a comprehensive compilation of women's role, achievements and activities in Bangladesh highlighted in the newspapers between 1995 to 2005.

The book will be edited by Selina Hossain, Tasmima Hossain and Maleka Begum. Prof. Dr Nazma Chowdhury of Women's Studies Department, Dhaka University and Chairperson, Bangladesh National NGO Forum, Preparatory Committee-Beijing Conference 1995, has been made advisor to the project.
