2 killed in train accident in city

A man was killed and his wife severely injured when a train hit them at Golapbagh under Demra thana in the city on Saturday evening.

The victims were identified as Mohammad Iqbal, 22, an employee of an engineering workshop, and Morsheda Begum, 19.

She was first admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition and later shifted to Orthopaedic hospital.

Her both legs will have to be amputated, said Morsheda's father.

The newly married couple went out of their house to take a tour of the city on Saturday morning, said the relatives.

But a Narayanganj-bound train knocked them down when they were crossing the rail line at Golapbagh rail crossing, they added. Iqbal died on the spot.

In another incident, an unidentified man, aged around 35, was killed when a train hit him as he was crossing the rail line at Kuril-Bishwa Road in the city on Saturday night. He died on the spot.
