PM gives special grants to families of two slain railway guards

UNB, Dhaka
Prime Minister Khaleda Zia yesterday handed over special grants of Tk one lakh to each family of two railway guards killed while they were on duty.

Guard Humayun Kabir was burnt to death near Bhairab when a group of unruly people set fire to the Dhaka-bound Subarna Express on August 22, 2004.

The other, Bhasan Chandra Aaich, was killed by miscreants in the Chittagong-bound Turna Nishitha train on October 1, 2003.

Khaleda handed over the cheques to Humayun's wife Begum Mahfuza Begum and Bhasan's wife Smriti Chowdhury at a simple ceremony at the Prime Minister's Office.

Health Minister Dr Khandakher Musharraf Hossain, Communi-cations Minister Nazmul Huda, Fisheries Minister Abdullah Al Noman, Prime Minister's Political Secretary Harris Chowdhury and State Minister for Communications Salahuddin Ahmed were also present.
