CU admission test from February 5

Admission test for honours courses of Chittagong University (CU) for 2004-2005 academic session will begin on February 5 next year.

Application forms will be available from November 28 to December 26.

Admission seekers have been asked to collect forms at a cost of Tk 250 each from the New Market, Agrabad Sheikh Mujib Road, Kapashgola and Campus Branches of Agrani Bank and submit them to respective dean's office by December 27.

Two new departments -- Genetic Engineering and International Relations -- will be introduced with only 10 students each with from the current academic session.

"Thousands of admission seekers will vie against approximately 2700 seats in 34 departments and two institutes under seven units at CU," said Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. M Shamsuddin.

The admission committee, after holding two separate meetings, has brought a little change in the admission procedures of honours programmes. Admission under 'player quota' has been cancelled from the current session.

According to the fresh procedures, minimum required GPA for students with science background is 6 and for those with arts or commerce background, it would be GPA 5.5 in SSC or equivalent and HSC and equivalent.

However, all applicants must secure a minimum of GPA 2.5 in both SSC and HSC to apply while GPA 3 for the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Science.

10 marks from SSC and 15 marks of HSC excluding the marks obtained form fourth subject will be calculated with the marks of admission test to be considered for admission.

The 100-mark test will be held under MCQ (Multiple-Choice Question) system. The test will end on February 14.
