They also blamed the BNP-led coalition government for trampling the dignity of the judiciary by appointing High Court judges from political consideration.

The AL leaders were speaking at a discussion to mark the Jail Killing Day at the auditorium of the Institution of Engineers in the city.

AL General Secretary Adbul Jalil said the alliance government rewarded the criminals instead of bringing them to book.

"Those, who were involved in the killing of Bangabandhu and four national leaders, are now sitting on the state power," he said.

Jalil said the country's judiciary is now at stake as the government is appointing judges from political point of view.

AL Presidium Member Suranjit Sengupta said the killing of Bangabandhu and jail killing is inter-linked.

" The verdict of the jail killing case was pronounced according to the wish of the prime minister as all things were prepared in such a way so that the main accused could escape punishment," he added.

Presided over by AL acting chief Zillur Rahman, the discussion was also addressed by AL leaders Abdur Razzak , Mohammad Nasim, Syed Ashraful Islam, Tofail Ahmed, Sajeda Chowdhury, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir and Justice KM Sobhan.
