They also put up a barricade, disrupting traffic movement on the road from the TSC to Shahbagh for about four hours from 1.00pm soon after the accident took place.

The bus that hit the rickshaw was also damaged.

Police chased the agitating students and arrested one of them as they prevented them (police) from taking away the damaged bus.

The arrestee was identified as Dipak Goshwami Sumon, a master's student and chief organiser of Sandhan Sangskritik Charcha Kendra. Shakil Ahmed, a second year student of law, was slightly injured during the melee.

Police later seized the bus and arrested the driver.

About 50 students also staged demonstration to protest the movement of heavy vehicles through the campus.

They said the DU authorities did not take any step to check movement of heavy vehicles although a number of students had been killed and injured in road crashes on the campus.
