Solution to regional problems possible thru' discussions

Shaukat Aziz said this when he called on President Iajuddin Ahmed at Bangabhaban.

He said that success of the forthcoming SAARC summit in Dhaka could be a milestone in the endeavor for establishing regional peace and security.

Welcoming the Pakistani prime minister, Iajuddin hoped that the existing diplomatic relations between the two countries would be developed further in the days to come.

He said that both the countries could contribute a lot to their mutual economic progress through sharing experiences as they have common experiences in rural development, human resource development and poverty alleviation.

"Both Bangladesh and Pakistan could be benefited through sharing experiences, specially in the field of educational development and expanding academic linkage programme among the teachers and students," he said.

Shaukat Aziz expressed his government's willingness to give a number of scholarships to the Bangladeshi students.

The Pak PM praised the progress of Bangladesh in the field of microcredit and IT development.

Referring to the recent developments in the Delhi-Islamabad relationship, he said it is now "far better than any previous time."

Praising the diplomatic effort of Pakistan and India towards normalising relations between the two traditionally rival neighbours, Iajuddin hoped that the process would continue "for the sake of regional peace and development".

Pakistani Commerce Minister Humayun Akhter Khan, Industries Minister Jehangir Khan Taren, Textile Industry Minister Mushtaq and High Commissioner to Dhaka Manzar Shafiq were present.
