One killed, 40 injured in Habiganj clash

The dead was identified as Abdur Rahim Talukder, 38, a resident of Begunai village.

Police and witnesses said, altercation started over being witness in a case, between the supporters of Begunia Union Parishad Chairman Morshed Kamal and one Farid Mia. At one stage it turned into a bloody clash.

Both the groups used lethal weapons during the clash. Abdur Rahim died on the spot when he was struck by a sharp weapon. At least 40 people, including women, were injured in the clash that lasted more than two hours.

Injured Ashik, 25, Chabir Mia, 20, and Akkas were admitted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital in a critical condition.

Body of Rahim was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
