PBCP cadres throw bombs on doc's car in Khulna

The PBCP cadres threw two bombs on the car of eminent surgeon Dr Gazi Mizanur Rahman at Majid Sarani under Sonadanga thana in the city yesterday.

Driver Abu Hanif and witnesses said that two unidentified miscreants threw bombs when Dr Mizan's daughter SSC candidate Antara was going to Govt Coronation Girls' High School by the car. Splinters of th powerful bombs caused damage to wind shields of the car.

The miscreants disappeared through a by-lane by a motorbike, witnesses said.

Anisur Rahman, assistant commissioner of south zone, said the bomb attackers are cadres of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-Janajuddho). The PBCP cadres threatened to kill Dr Mizan, Managing Director of 'Khulna Surgical Clinic Ltd, several times if he failed to pay tolls to them, Anis said. But he ignored the death threats given over cell phone by Janajuddho cadres, he added.

Dr Mizan confirming the incident said that the extremists have been demanding huge amount of toll from him for the last few weeks. They also death threat, he added.

Sources at the management of the Khulna Surgical Clinic said a cadre of Janajuddho who identified him as Tushar threatened Dr Mizan over phone few minutes after the bomb attack to pay toll or face a dire consequence.
