2 killed, 50 injured in B'baria clash

Two people were killed and about 50 others injured in a clash between two groups at village Thanakandi in Nabinagar upazila yesterday morning.

The deceased were identified as Nooru Mia, 50, and Amir Hossain, 60, residents of the village.

The fierce clash erupted between the supporters of Member Golam Hossain and Member Abu Taher of Thanakandi village over settlement of a dispute, injuring 52 people critically, police and witnesses said.

The badly injured Nooru Mia and Amir Hossain were rushed to the Nabinagar Hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.

Both the groups used lethal weapons during the clash that lasted about one hour.

Among the critically injured, three people were admitted to a local hospital and two others were sent to Dhaka Medical Collegea Hospital (DMCH).

Nabinagar thana police brought the situation under control. Police were also deployed at the village to avert further troubles.
