Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) on Wednesday called on the BNP-Jamaat-led coalition to resign immediately for its failure in combating the abnormal price hike of essentials.

Addressing a rally at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city, the JSD leaders said the government has no right to cling to power any more as it could not ensure food and security of the people.

"Rain and floods are not the main reasons for price spiral, rather the ruling party-backed unscrupulous whole sellers and extortionists had contributed to the present abnormal price hike of essentials," said Syed Jafar Sajjad, general secretary of the JSD.

"The alliance government has placed their own people in every sector of the economy and they control the markets to realise their own interest," he alleged.

The general secretary said it is very unfortunate that the poor people cannot afford to buy even rice and chilli as their prices have gone beyond their means.

JSD President Hasanul Haque Inu called upon the people to unite to oust the present failed government and form a new one to free the countrymen from misrule.

JSD leaders Moinuddin Khan Badal, Sharif Nurul Ambia and Advocate Habibur Rahman Showkat also addressed the rally.

Later, a procession was brought out that paraded the area.
