Protest against price spiral of essentials continues

Different political, social and business organisations continued to protest the price spiral of essentials in the city yesterday.

Dhaka Mohanagar Awami League held a meeting at its office on Bangabandhu Avenue to protest the price hike.

Addressing the meeting, Md Hanif said there is no alternative but to oust the government for its failure to run the country.

AL central leaders Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Omar Ali, Fayz Uddin Mia, Sheikh Bazlur Rahman and Mukul Chowdhury were present at the meeting.

Dhaka Mohanagar Awami League will hold a rally at Muktangan today to protest the abnormal price increase.

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) took out a procession from the Central Shaheed Minar which was intercepted by police at Doel Chattar.

Earlier addressing a rally, BCL President Liakat Shikder said the commerce minister and some others at 'Hawa Bhaban' are responsible for artificial crisis of essentials to help the party businessmen.

Bangladesh Awami Swechhasebak League also took out a procession protesting the price hike, but police dispersed the procession when it reached at Zero Point.

Left-leaning 11 party held a rally at Muktangon to protest the price hike of essentials. Speakers at the rally said rain and flood are not the main reasons for price spiral, rather the government's failure to control the hoarders and extortionists had contributed to abnormal price increase of essentials creating untold sufferings to the common people.

They also demanded of the government to take immediate actions to bring down the prices.

Later, the party took out a procession that ended at Bahadur Shah Park in old town.

Karmojibi Nari and Bangladesh Horticulture Producers and Exporters Association have also expressed concern over the price hike of essentials.

Karmojibi Nari Chairperson Shirin Akhter and General Secretary Sharmin Kabir urged the government to take stern action against the scrupulous businessmen and hoarders and establish its total control over the market.
