14 killed, 31 injured in road accidents
Six people were killed and 18 injured as a truck rammed a bus from behind at Muhuriganj on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway yesterday afternoon.
Police said all the deceased were passengers of the Parshuram-bound bus, coming from Chittagong.
Of the injured, 13 were admitted to Sadar Hospital where one of them, M Hanif, 24, of Forhadnagar village in Sadar and an unidentified man died later on.
Condition of six of the injured was stated to be critical "critical".
Identities of other deceased could not be known immediately, police said.
Meanwhile, Four people were killed and three injured as a tempo and a rickshaw crushed in two accidents in Chittagong district yesterday.
The four killed in the collisions were both the driver and the helper of the tempo and the rickshaw-puller and the rickshaw passenger, police and witnesses said.
In the first accident, the driver and his helper were killed and three passengers injured when a truck rammed into a tempo on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar road at Gomdandi in Boalkhali upazila.
The driver, whose name could not be known immediately, and helper Shah Alam, 26, of the Patiya-bound tempo died on the spot as the sand-laden truck hit the three-wheeler at 9:30am.
The tempo passengers--a woman and two men--were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital "in critical condition".
In another mishap, a bus ran over a rickshaw at Darogahat in Sitakundo upazila at 2.00pm, killing the rickshaw-puller and the passenger both.
The dead were identified as Passenger Mahmud,38, and rickshaw-puller Salam,50.
A report from Barisal adds, A bus helper was killed in a road mishap in Bakerganj upazila on Barisal-Patuakhali highway on Saturday.
Police said helper Rafiqul Islam, 26, suddenly slipped out of the running bus at Dadurhat area early in the morning sustaining severe injuries.
He was rushed to the Sher-e Bangla Medical College Hospital where he died at noon.
BSS from Cox's Bazar adds: Three people were killed and 10 injured, four of them critically, in two separate road accidents on Cox's Bazar-Chittagong highway yesterday.
Police said a Chittagong-bound passenger bus from Chokoria knocked a microbus coming from the opposite direction at Baniarchor at about 10 am killing an elderly man instantaneously and leaving 10 people injured.
One of the injured died on way to hospital in Chittagong and four were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
In another accident here, one person, identified as Amulya Barua, was killed and another injured when a microbus fell into a roadside ditch when its driver lost control over the steering at about 11.00 am.
