Mob, police clash in Rangamati: 9 injured
Nine people including two constables were hurt in a clash between a mob and police when the cops tried to save four UPDF activists from mob beating in Kawkhali yesterday.
A mob held four anti-peace accord United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) activists -- Amar Shanti Chakma, 44, Subrata Chakma, 40, Chitta Ranjan Chakma, 22, and Palash Chakma, 30, -- in the act of extortion yesterday, witnesses said.
As the mob was beating up them, police baton-charged to save the UPDF men that precipitated into a clash. Of the injured, constables Mansur Ali, 35, and Apurba, 30, were admitted to upazila health complex.
Police rescued the UPDF men and took them to Kawkhali Police Station.
