An FIR was lodged with Rampal Police Station in Bagerhat accusing four people, including a BNP leader, of murdering an elderly couple.

Shishubar Biswas, 65, a fish trader, and his wife Sitarani Biswas, 54, were slaughtered in their house at Gouramva union on Monday night.

The accused are UP member and BNP leader Nasir Joarder, 40, Mohsin Joarder, 50, Mizanur Rahman, 45, and Razan Biswas, 28. They were arrested following the murder.

A petition was also submitted to the court yesterday seeking a seven-day remand for them. The hearing on remand prayer will be held today.

OC Matiar Rahman suspected that either a land dispute or attempt to grab the land of the fish trader led to the murders.

Khulna City Awami League President Talukder Abdul Khaleque MP demanded arrest of the real culprits.

Shushanta Kumar Biswas, eldest son of Shishubar Biswas, lodged the FIR. Shushanta is an engineer and owner of 'Power Sonic Electronics' in Dhaka.
