'Resist fanatics trying to disrupt women's football'

Leaders of different organisations yesterday called for resisting the religious fanatics who are trying to disrupt the women's football tournament in the city.

They also condemned the threats to the National Sports Council by the Islamic Constitution Movement (ICM) to lay siege to the council in a bid to stop the ongoing tournament.

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of the main opposition Awami League (AL), yesterday vowed to resist the siege programme.

Sammilito Nari Samaj, a women's organisation, has urged the Football Federation not to compromise with the religious fanatics.

Amir of ICM and Charmonai Pir Fazlul Karim threatened to besiege the National Sports Council tomorrow if the government does not stop the ongoing women's football tournament.

Islami Shasontantro Chhatra Andolon, student wing of ICM, yesterday held a rally demanding a ban on women's sports especially football and swimming.
