JCD demands removal of CU vice-chancellor

Cu Correspondent
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) yesterday demanded immediate removal of Chittagong University (CU) Vice-Chancellor Professor AJM Nuruddin Chowdhury for his alleged corruption in appointing teachers and patronising Jamaat-Shibir.

JCD launched a movement to press home its one-point demand for removal of the VC on the campus yesterday.

It will observe a token hunger strike on the campus on Sunday in support of their demand.

The JCD leaders announced the programme at a rally on the administrative building premises with CU unit president Md Selim in the chair. Earlier, a procession was brought out on the campus in support of their demand.

Speakers at the rally said that they would continue their movement until removal of the VC. They said the VC is an 'agent' of Jamaat-Shibir.

"Though he became VC identifying himself as a pro-BNP man, he now has been working in favour of Jamaat-Shibir ", the JCD leaders told the rally.

They said that after taking over the office he had appointed at least 70 teachers aligned with Jamaat-Shibir defying rules and regulations.

"He deprived all the pro-BNP senior teachers of various posts including dean, provost, house tutor, they said. The university has now become a rehabilitation centre of Jamaat-Shibir activists, they added.

JCD university unit General Secretary MR Milton Chowdhury and Vice-President Khorshed Alam addressed the rally.
