Wife hacks husband to death

Police arrested Nazma Begum Sathi, 30, wife of Reaz Shikder, after neighbours informed them in the morning. Both of them worked in Sina Garments at Demra.

The neighbours found Reaz lying in a pool of blood at his tin-roofed house. The body bore many stab wounds.

"The couple brawled over the issue last night," police quoted a neighbour of Reaz as saying.

Nazma, mother of a four-year-old girl, attacked her husband at about 2:00am with a machete in his sleep, they said, adding that her sari was bloodstained.

The body was sent to Mitford Hospital for autopsy.

Reaz, who hailed from Tekali village of Bhandaria in Pirojpur, married Nazma of Pangsha upazila in Rajbari six years ago.

But their relationship had been strained for the last couple of years as Reaz allegedly had an illicit affair with a co-worker of the garments factory, police said.
