Rumour of concealed video camera at Rokeya Hall
The students staged demonstrations inside the hall during the last two nights and demanded proper investigation and exemplary punishment to the persons responsible.
On Tuesday night, angry students confined Provost Dr Tajmery SA Islam to the hall office and demanded her resignation.
They alleged the hall provost recovered the camera but tried to hush up the incident.
A student said they would launch a tough movement to remove the provost as she (provost) did not take any step after the rumour spread.
Dr Tajmery Islam was not available for her comments despite repeated attempts.
The university authorities, however, in a press release protested the news of recovery of camera published in several newspapers yesterday, terming it totally baseless and false.
The press release also said the university administration formed a probe committee and it submitted a report to the Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof AFM Yusuf Haider at 4:00pm yesterday.
According to the report, the committee members searched the bathrooms and talked to the student but found nothing. And no student said they found the video camera or have any such camera, the report stated.
The acting VC also formed another investigation committee with hall provost Dr Tajmery SA Islam and house tutor Prof Mamtaz Begum as its convenor and member secretary respectively.
The other members are the dean of arts faculty, provosts of Shamsunnahar Hall, Bangladesh-Kuwait Moitree Hall, Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall and Surya Sen Hall and the proctor. The committee has been asked to submit a detailed report within a week.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Mohila Parishad in a statement yesterday demanded security of the female students in all dormitories of the university and exemplary punishment to the culprits.
Parishad President Hena Das and Acting General Secretary Maleka Banu also demanded a fair investigation into the incident.
