Obituary
Dr Amulya Bikash Basak, a professor at the botany department of Chittagong University, died of cancer at Holy Crescent Hospital in the port city on Sunday at the age of 52.
An internationally renowned researcher, Dr Amulya received the 'American Medal of Honour 2004' from American Biographical Institute of North Carolina.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
He was cremated at his native village in Rangunia.
Vice-Chancellor Prof AJM Nuruddin Chowdhury, Pro-VC Prof Dr M Shamsuddin and Registrar Md Idris Mian expressed deep shock at the death of Dr Amulya.
CU Teachers' Association and Bangladesh Chhatra Union also expressed condolence at his death.
