Prof Mazhar Ali Quaderi passes away

Prof Mazhar Ali Quaderi, former vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), died of multi-organ failure on Wednesday night at the age of 80.

A former lawmaker, Prof Quaderi was also the founder president of Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad and president of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA).

As a professor of medicine, he had served in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Prof Quaderi is survived by three sons.

His namaz-e-janaza was held at Gulshan Central Mosque yesterday. His body has been kept at Birdem mortuary and he will be buried after his sons arrive in Dhaka from abroad within a couple of days.

Opposition Leader and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad and Bangladesh Private Medical Practitioners' Association have expressed condolence at his death.
