More donations to PM's fund

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia received cheques from representatives of the organisations at her office.

Bankers Association Chairman Syed Monzur Elahi along with chairmen of 15 member banks handed over a cheque for Tk six crore to the prime minister.

Speaker, deputy speaker, whips and the officials and employees of the Sangsad Secretariat donated their one day's salary equivalent to Tk 5 lakh and the members of the Sangsad Club donated Tk 5 lakh towards Prime Minister's Relief Fund. Speaker Jamir Uddin Sircar handed over the cheque.

A delegation of Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters' Association, led by its president Kazi Monirul Huq and vice-president MMA Salam, handed over a cheque for Tk 10 lakh. Grameen Phone contributed Tk 25 lakh to the relief fund. Managing Director of the company Ola Ree and Director Khaled Hasan handed over the cheque to the prime minister.

Hossaf Group Chairman Moazzem Hossain handed over a cheque for Tk 10 lakh. Opsonin Managing Director A Rouf Khan also handed over a cheque for Tk 10 lakh.

Dr MA Hadi and Dr AZM Zahid Hossain of Bangladesh Medical Association handed over a cheque for Tk 10 lakh.

On behalf of the armed forces, Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury handed over a cheque for Tk one crore. Naval Chief Rear Admiral Iqbal Mortuza and Air Chief Mirza Fakhrul Azam handed over cheques for Tk 16 lakh each.

Spouses of the chiefs of three services also handed over cheques for a total of Tk nine lakh separately on behalf of the family welfare associations of respective forces.
