Speakers at a rally yesterday called on the government to seek international assistance declaring the devastating floods as national disaster.

They said the government has failed to mitigate the sufferings of the flood victims who are leading an inhuman life due to lack of food and shelter.

The rally was organised by the Sammilito Ainjibi Samannoy Parishad (SASP) at the Supreme Court Bar Association premises.

SASP President Barrister Amir-Ul-Islam called for establishing a national committee to help flood-affected people.

He urged the lawyers across the country to be united to mitigate the hardships of the flood victims.

Former law minister Abdul Matin Khasru criticised the government for its failure to provide adequate relief to flood-hit people.

SASP Vice President Sirajul Haque said when two-thirds of the country was submerged by floodwater, the prime minister was speaking about the advantage of floods.

Supreme Court lawyers Subrata Chowdhury, Bashir Ahmed and Shawkat Ali Khan also spoke.

Earlier, the parishad formed a human-chain to express their sympathy for flood-affected people.

It also decided to create a fund for flood victims by collecting money from the lawyers.
