Husband kills wife

A driver allegedly killed his wife at his residence in Mohammadpur in the city in the early hours of yesterday.

Police recovered the body of Nargis Begum, 30, wife of Delwar Hossain, at her 27 West Agargaon residence at 7:30am.

"My father came home yesterday (Saturday) and I saw my mother opening the door for him," said Sonia, the victim's seven-year-old daughter, adding that "He stayed in the house at night but went missing since the morning."

"A neighbour heard a noise at their room at night and reported it to police in the morning, " said the Duty Officer of Mohammadpur Police Station.

Police found her body covered with a blanket in her bed.

The inquest report said she had marks of injuries in her left ear, jaw, neck, back and right hand.

Police sent the body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy which said Nargis was carrying for six months and strangulated.

"My brother killed her and fled the scene sometime at night," said Jasim, younger brother of Delwar.

He told reporters at the DMCH that Delwar, 35, used to work for a former district education officer at Agargaon.

Meanwhile, Motijheel police recovered a body found floating in flood waters in front of Al-Helal Police Box yesterday morning.

The unidentified body of a youth, aged around 22, was clad in black T-shirt and shorts.

There were marks of injuries in forehead, left hand, and blood was oozing form his nose.

Police sent the body to the DMC H for autopsy.
