Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad launched

A group of professionals floated an organisation titled 'Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad' yesterday to uphold the spirit of the Liberation War and democracy.

"We will try to solve problems facing the countrymen through discussions with the government, political parties, NGOs, civil society and experts," said Parishad Convenor Prof Rashid-e-Mahabub at the launching ceremony in the city.

Announcing a 12-point action programme, the Parishad leaders called on all professionals to come forward to help ensure accountability in the administration, improve law and order and stamp out corruption.

"We will also work towards separation of judiciary and scrapping of all treaties with foreign countries and company that goes against national interest," said agriculturist Nazrul Islam, joint convenor of the Parishad.

The organisation will also help end all forms of discriminations against women and safeguard human rights, he said.

It will also try to address problems in different sectors such as health, agriculture, environment and energy, he added.

Parishad leaders Prof Dr AFM Ruhul Haq, agriculturist Abdur Razzq Mia, engineer SM Khbiruzzaman, Dr Mustak Hossain and engineer Golam Mustafa were also present.
