Rotary-Unicef to install safe water systems in arsenic-affected UZs
An agreement to this effect was signed between Rotary International District 3280-Bangladesh and the Unicef in the city yesterday.
Iftekhar-ul Alam, past Rotary district governor and chair of Polio Plus Committee, and APB Senagama, senior operations officer of Unicef Bangladesh signed the agreement.
The fund will be utilised through the DPHE-Unicef Community-Based Arsenic Mitigation Project being implemented in these upazilas.
Brac and Grameen Shikkha are implementing the projects with support of different arsenic mitigation committees set up by the government at various levels and in collaboration with the communities.
The duration of the project is from July 2004 to January 2005. On completion of the project, about 75,000 people of the four upazilas will be benefited from the arsenic-free safe water supplies.
