EC happy with law, order

In a meeting held at the commission secretariat the EC said the army personnel would be deployed on July 29. The EC also said nobody has filed any complaint against the Gazipur district administration or the police.

Acting Election Commissioner Shafiur Rahman who chaired the meeting asked the law enforcing agencies to act impartially so that the by-polls may be held in a free and fair manner.

The meeting also reviewed EC preparations for the by-polls and asserted that all necessary measures have been taken to hold the by-polls peacefully.

A total of eight candidates are contesting for the August 1 by-polls where 546293 voters are likely to cast votes.

Election Commissioner MM Munsef Ali, Election Commissioner AK Mohammad Ali, Home Secretary Omar Faruk, Election Commission Secretary SM Zakaria and Inspector General of Police Shahudul Haq were also present at the meeting.
