2 drivers shot in city

A gang of four armed carjackers rented an autorickshaw from Jatrabari at around 5:30am and tried to snatch away the vehicle at Iqbal Road in Mohammadpur from its driver Abdur Rahman Sharif, 30, at gunpoint.

As Sharif refused to hand over his three-wheeler and shouted for help, the gang opened fire twice injuring his right thigh and stomach and fled the scene leaving the vehicle.

Sharif was given treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Mohammadpur police confirmed the incident but could not give details.

In another incident Manik, 35, a taxicab driver, came under attack by a gang of armed youths at Jurain Rail Gate in Khilgaon at about 1:15am.

They stopped the car and tried to snatch away TK 3000 that he had with him.

As Manik refused to give the money, the gang shot him in the shoulder and the hand and left the spot.

Manik was rushed to DMCH.
