The Premier University organised the seminar, Legal Education in Bangladesh, on the occasion of the first anniversary of its law department at Dampara in Chittagong.
Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury inaugurated the seminar.
Chairman of the Law Commission ATM Afzal said the commission had undertaken a study of the legal education and it would submit a report with recommendations to the government.
Eminent lawyer Dr Kamal Hossain suggested updating the curriculum of law education.
He regretted that pressure is now being put on the judges in the lower courts to reject bail prayers. Now people are forced go to higher court to get bails, he added.
Monirul Azam, a lecturer of the university, in his keynote paper highlighted some drawbacks of legal education system and placed six-point recommendation.
Presided over by Premier University Vice-chancellor Prof. Anwarul Azim Arif, the seminar was also attended by Justice AFM Mesbahuddin and Prof. Dr M Shah Alam.
