Dhaka gets the hang of science of printing

With the new multi-functional devices, the event transmitted some of the key points from 'The Science of Printing', a seminar that was held at the Inkjet Supplies Manufacturing Singapore (IJMS) facility with regional journalists on March 4 -5.
HP's science and engineering department plays a major role in their success story. Their innovations and hard work to retain quality earns reliability from their consumers in return.
"In a recent study it has been found that colour triggers more than 85 per cent people to buy something than black and white (B&W). One remembers a colour presentation 60 percent more than a B&W," said Shabbir Shafiullah, sales manager, HP imaging and printing group Bangladesh.
"HP leads the market in Photosmart technology," said Bob Ang, sales manager, HP imaging and printing groups Asian emerging countries. "Today we get instant printouts by just clicking a button. Colour no longer makes the printing process slow. Researches by independent sources have proved HP nine times reliable for black prints and 50 times reliable for colour prints. A toner is not just black powder but a technical component". Bob also explained some important factors from the 'science of printing' in brief.
The Ink performance
HP's ink technology includes black fortification, which moistures the dark black text. The pigmented black ink includes patented technology for excellent water resistance. The inks provide outstanding lightfastness preventing fading. HP puts an average of 12,000 engineering and scientist hours into each ink refinement. It consumes more than 22,000 litres of ink for testing, optimising and scaling up an ink formation.
HP PhotoREt Pro technology
The PhotoREt Pro technology offers '8-ink' printing. The new HP Photosmart 7960 printer includes PhotoREt Pro in a total of four print cartridges, the new HP 59 grey photo cartridge, the HP 58 photo cartridge, the HP 57 tri-colour cartridge and the HP 56 black cartridge.
The paper
Two basic types of ink receptive coatings are used in inkjet photo papers -- swellable and porous. Swellable coatings are made of synthetic or natural polymers that swell in contact with water or inks. After the ink dries, dye is left behind and encapsulated in the coating, which essentially protects the dye from any contact with airborne pollutants.
Porous coating for inkjet photo prints is a recent technology and has been designed to dry immediately after printing. These semi-rigid coatings comprise of millions of microscopic particles. The ink flows through the spaces between the particles and deposits the dye on the surface of the particles.
Toner Tech
HP colour toners are second generation polymerised or chemically grown toners, rather than conventional pulverised toners. Having improved pigments, their formulations contain a soft wax core for fast, smooth, oil-less fusing. The chemically grown toner provides wider colour gamut, true-to-life colour appearance and a sharp, crisp text quality.
The AIOs
The multi-functional devices and print solutions released at the event focuses on small and medium businesses (SMBs) of all sizes to enable them to get more from their imaging and printing. The new multi-functional equipment released include three new HP LaserJets and two HP Officejets, which combine the functions of scanning, printing, copying and faxing into one reliable business device.
HP Officejet 9100
The HP Officejet 9100 series combines the functions of print, scan, copy, fax and digitally send documents and images to file folders or e-mail without a dedicated computer connection. It also provides remote management features, colour control and tracking options to reduce service and usage costs.
HP Officejet 5510
The HP Officejet 5510 AIO offers professional printing quality in both colour and black. It can serve as a convenient personal fax machine with a 33.6 kbps modem and transmission of three seconds per page. The flatbed design makes it easy to scan and copy images from brochure thick reference books and more.
HP LaserJet 3015 AIO
The integrated service of HP LaserJet 3015 enable print/copy speed of up to 14ppm (A4) with output quality of up to 1200 dpi. Its ADF capacitates 30 sheets unattended copying, scanning and faxing for large documents.
HP LaserJet 3020/3030 AIO
This is another compact flatbed serving the purpose of four printing, copying, scanning and faxing.
HP Colour LaserJet 3500/3700
The HP Colour LaserJet 3500 series has been designed for workgroups of up to 10 users. Its instant-on fuser technology ensures no warm up time with first page out in 22 seconds.
