Shaila elected chairman of Taherpur Pourasava
The post had fallen vacant after the killing of her father.
She defeated her lone rival, BNP-backed Shamsunahar, by 121 votes only.
Shaila Parveen, daughter of former pourasava chairman Alo Khondaker who was killed on December 8 last year, bagged 4,088 votes while Shamsunahar got 3,967 votes.
Shamsunahar's husband, BNP leader Prof. Wahed, who was a candidate in the last polls and was defeated by Alo Kandaker, was also slain by gunmen.
Some 8,055 voters, out of total 10,132, cast votes in the heavily guarded nine centres during the voting from 8.00am to 4.00pm.
