4,365 Bangladeshis languishing in jails abroad

Some 4,365 Bangladeshis are now in foreign prisons and deportation camps, parliament was told yesterday.

Of them, 3,012 are in prisons and 1,353 in deportation camps, said State Minister for Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Qamrul Islam, replying to a call attention notice raised by Shahjahan Chowdhury (Jamaat-Chittagong).

The state minister informed the House of the government's efforts to extend legal support to the detained Bangladeshis.

The assistance is given through Bangladesh missions where there is one and in absence of such a mission, the support is given through IOMF, he said.
