BUET teacher gets IEB gold medal

Professor Sohrabuddin Ahmad of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology has been awarded IEB Gold Medal by the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, recently for his outstanding contribution to engineering education and research, says a press release.

His research on 'Curved Thick Shell Finite Element' has received wide recognition and the element has been named 'Ahmad element'. He has more than 40 research publications to his credit at home and abroad.

Prof. Ahmad is also a co-author of a book titled 'Techniques of Finite Elements' for post-graduate studies, published in the UK.

Design provisions for stair slabs based on Ahmad element form part of the Bangladesh National Building Code.

Earlier, Prof. Ahmad received Research Excellence Award, 1995-96. He is also the first recipient of Dr Rashid Memorial Gold Medal Instituted by the BUET.
