Sec 144 imposed at Pirojpur

Local Reporters Club called the meeting at Town Hall ground at 3.00pm yesterday in protest against beating up of district correspondent of Dainik Janakantha Shafiul Haq while the local unit JCD and Jubo Dal also scheduled a meeting to protest the murder of journalist Manik Saha at the same venue and same time.

But tension mounted in the town after both groups conducted massive campaign in favour of their respective meetings.

The section 144 imposed by Additional District Magistrate Mohammad Abdul Mannan became effective from 12:15pm yesterday.

Earlier, it was announced that Bahauddin Nasim, former home minister Mohammad Nasim and other leaders would be present at the meeting of the Reporters Club.
