JCD demands security of students on RU campus
The JCD also threatened to go for a movement if its demands are not met before the reopening of the university.
The university has been closed until February 7. The authorities announced the closure on January 14 in the wake of armed clash between the Islami Chhatra Shibir and the JCD that left at least 50 people injured.
The JCD demands include security of the students, action against the biased and incompetent teachers and officials, implementation of the code of conduct for students' organisations, judicial probe into January 13 armed clashes and removal of Shibir-aligned employees who used firearms during the clash.
If the authorities fail to meet the demands, the JCD will take political steps to ensure security on the campus and the authorities will be responsible for any untoward incident, the JCD leaders warned at a press conference.
JCD President Motiar Rahman and General Secretary Aslam Reza blamed the RU administration for siding with the Shibir activists who were accused of posing a threat to students' security.
The Shibir cadres made attacks on the JCD three times since the present vice-chancellor took over, they said.
"Although we have complained several times about unlawful activities of the Shibir activists, but the RU administration did not pay any heed," said Motiar Rahman.
The latest attack came following the JCD's protest at black marketing of admission forms by the Shibir, they said.
They also alleged that the Shibir activists in connivance with a section of teachers were selling the forms at black market.
The press conference was held at a cabin of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where the JCD leaders injured in January 13 clashes were undergoing treatment.
Contacted, RU Student Advisor Prof. Rafiqul Islam declined to comment on the JCD allegations, saying that there should be an investigation into the allegations.
