Representatives of three bus companies have urged the government not to give permission to introduce new services on Mohammadpur-Motijheel Route without proper assessment of the situation.

Addressing a press conference at the National Press Club on Wednesday, they said if permission is given to any new bus service, it would create unhealthy competition and acute traffic jam on this route.

Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury, managing partner of Rajdhani Express and vice-president of Dhaka Sarak Paribahan Samity, said a bus company is trying to introduce a new service on this route illegally without any route permit.

He also called for formulation of a comprehensive transport policy which will be acceptable to all.

Azam Khan Munna, managing director of Megacity Bus Company Ltd, and Rashedin Khan Selim, managing director of ATCL were also present at the press conference.
