Slain AL leader's family gets fresh death threats

Family of slain Awami League leader SMA Rob has reportedly received fresh death threats for demanding reinvestigation of the Rob murder case.

Complainant of the case and Rob's eldest son Arifur Rahman Mithu told police the threats were issued by an industrialist.

Sources said the Criminal Investigation Department suspected the industrialist to have paid Rob's killers but the man allegedly bought off the investigating officer and managed to get his name dropped from the charge sheet.

Meanwhile, Mithu's mother, a prosecution witness in the murder case, said joint forces picked up her son from his Noornagar house without any warrant during an anti-crime drive on Monday night but later released him.

Earlier, Mithu's relative Abdul Gafur filed a general diary with Sonadanga police alleging that Mithu had severely beaten him up.

Sources said Gafur was beaten up for asking Mithu to return a large sum of money he took from the industrialist. The money was given to Mithu on condition that he wouldn't demand any reinvestigation into the murder case. But the industrialist became furious after Mithu rejected the charge sheet and demanded a reinvestigation.

The money was paid from a savings account with the Khulna branch of Southeast Bank, added the sources.
