The Awami League (AL) has asked its two feuding leaders to stay clear of fresh squabbles after suspending their separate programmes in Sunamganj to tackle the volatile situation there, party sources said.

Tension mounted in Sunamganj when the two none-too-friendly AL presidium members -- Abdus Samad Azad and Suranjit Sengupta -- planned to hold separate party programmes at Jamalganj on December 4.

One of the programmes was rescheduled for December 7 initially, but both the events were suspended in the end through a party directive issued by AL General Secretary Abdul Jalil on December 2.

Party President Sheikh Hasina also warned Samad and Suranjit as well as all senior leaders against intra-party feud when the two met her on Saturday, party sources said.
