Armed Forces Day observed

Special munajat was offered after Juma prayers in all mosques at army garrisons and naval and airforce bases throughout the country, seeking divine blessings for the wellbeing and prosperity of the nation and progress and unity of the Armed Forces.
President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Iajuddin Ahmed placed wreaths at the Shikha Anirban (the Eternal Flame) at Dhaka Cantonment in the morning to pay homage to the soldiers who embraced martyrdom in the War of Liberation.
Prime Minister's Military Secretary Brigadier General Sharif Uddin placed wreaths at the Shikha Anirban on behalf of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who is also in charge of the Defence Ministry, as she is now in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.
Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury, Chief of the Naval Staff Rear Admiral Shah Iqbal Mujtaba and Chief of the Air Staff Air Vice-Marshal Fakhrul Azam also placed wreaths at the Shikha Anirban.
Chiefs of Staff of the three services paid a courtesy call on President Iajuddin Ahmed at Bangabhaban on the occasion.
The reception to the gallantry award winning freedom fighters and martyrs' families at Armed Forces Division and evening reception at Senakunja, to be hosted by the prime minister, will be held on December 1.
The day was also observed in all other army garrisons, naval ships and establishments and airforce bases across the country.
Bangladesh Navy ships dressed overall remained open to visitors in Dhaka, Chittagong and Khulna.
Bangladesh Television aired a special 'Anirban' programme illustrating the significance of the day and Bangladesh Betar broadcast a special 'Durbar' programme.
National dailies also published special supplements to mark the day.
